When and with whom

One hike inspired this trip – we wanted to see the Fuego volcano erupt in the night and mother nature didn’t disappoint us! While not a particularly long eruption (like some eruptions that happened in 2024), it was still stunning to witness. While here we also visited Lake Atitlan, the deepest lake in Central America and nominated as one of the 7 new wonders of the world, but passed on visiting the historical Mayan ruins known as Tikal. Immediately following this trip we flew to the Dominican Republic to spend 5 days with friends in Punta Cana.

I traveled with my not-husband, Scott, during this trip. Together we joined Ox Expeditions for our group overnight hike of Fuego Volanco and Acatenango Sunrise Summit (known as the Double Whammy). More on that here.
